Cooking with Milk Products Makes Foods Delicious and Nutritious!

Milk products such as milk, cheese and yogurt are very versatile foods in that they can be consumed as is, or used in a variety of different recipes.

In addition to being an excellent source of calcium, milk products are a source of many other essential nutrients, all of which work together towards our good health! Cooking with milk products is a great way to not only add flavor to your recipes, but it also helps to ensure you consume the daily recommended number of servings of Milk and Alternatives as outlined in Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide. So go ahead, start cooking with milk products and let your taste buds enjoy!

Here are a few ideas on how you can incorporate milk products in some of your favorite recipes:

  • Make soups and chowders with milk instead of water.

  • Add cheese to your favorite seafood casserole to make it tastier.

  • Use buttermilk (which contrary to popular belief is low in fat) in
    pancake batter for fluffier pancakes.

  • Blend milk, yogurt and fruit to make your own signature smoothie.

  • Whip up your own yogurt-based salad dressing or dip and enjoy with
    your favorite veggies.
